We are pleased to announce that San Diego City Council President Ben Hueso endorses Barbara Denny for Coronado City Council in our Special Election on Tuesday May 19th. Hueso currently serves as the President of the San Diego City Council and represents the 8th District. He also serves on the California Costal Commission, a state agency that regulates the California coastline including all of Coronado’s waterfront, and is San Diego County’s representative to the League of California Cities. Hueso is a member of the Board of Directors of the San Diego Association of Governments, (SANDAG). SANDAG is the forum for regional decision-making for San Diego County’s 18 local governments on a broad range of issues such as growth, transportation, environmental management, housing, open space, air quality, energy, fiscal management, and economic development. Hueso has advocated for several regional projects benefitting Coronado such as the Bayshore Bikeway, the 24-mile bicycle path around San Diego Bay. “The residents in my council district are Coronado’s closest neighbors over the bridge. It is important that we have a good relationship with our neighbors and work together to solve our regional problems, including traffic and protecting our waterfront, two issues which I am confident Barbara Denny is committed to addressing,” said Hueso. Barbara Denny has proposed a park-and-ride plan wherein civilians who work in Coronado, vacationing tourists and day trip guests have incentives to park at locations in District 8 before boarding environmentally friendly buses to cross over the bridge and into Coronado. This innovative park-and-ride project would go a long way toward managing the traffic problem, not just on Third and Fourth Streets, but also throughout our entire island. The plan would also bring infrastructure improvements to this area in District 8. The park-and-ride plan would be part of a comprehensive traffic management system that is affordable and efficient. “I am very pleased with President Hueso’s endorsement,” said Denny, “It shows that Coronado has strong regional support to manage our traffic problem in an affordable and efficient manner.” We have to start protecting our island from the ever-increasing onslaught of vehicles which is simply a natural fact of life. We need to protect our island quality of life and village atmosphere with a smart and affordable traffic plan. A park-and-ride project with incentives for riders will significantly reduce the number of cars on our island and help make Coronado an even more outstanding place in which to live, work and vacation. Barbara Denny, an attorney, is a candidate for the Coronado City Council seat previously held by Mayor Casey Tanaka. The election will be held in the state-wide special election on May 19th. Denny is also endorsed by the Coronado Police Officers, Coronado Firefighters, Senator Jim Mills who authored the Mills Act for Historic Preservation, Chairman Peter Jensen of the Coronado Civil Service Commission, Commissioner Scott Peters of the Port of San Diego and hundreds of other Coronado residents. www.barbara4council.com [email protected] Telephone: 619-302-2274 Address: 841 “B” Avenue, Coronado, CA 92118 #### Barbara Denny for City Council Committee
