Tennis: CHS Boys Dominate Two Matches

The Boys’ Varsity Tennis team was in full swing this week for two very successful matches against Point Loma and Patrick Henry High Schools. Tuesday’s match against Point Loma was played at the Peninsula Tennis Club and proved an easy win for Coronado. In the singles lineup, Line 1 player Diego Yañez destroyed all three of his opponents, each set resulting in a score of 6-1. The same went for his brother, Line 2 player Jorge Yañez, winning each set at 6-1, as well. Line 3 singles player Andres de la Lama won all three of his matches, and Coronado was now leading nine sets to none.

On the doubles end of the spectrum, Point Loma’s Line 1 doubles defeated every Coronado doubles pair they played against. Line 1 doubles for Coronado, Ryan Wood and Santiago Gonzalez, did not drop a single game after that, as they defeated both Line 2 and 3 doubles at 6-0. Line 2 doubles, Yannick Peterhans and Jake Lamb, and Line 3, Isaac del Rincon and Anibal Ramirez, each won their sets after that. The final score gave Coronado the victory by quite a margin, 15-3.

The second match of the week against Patrick Henry High School proved an even easier win for Coronado. The same singles lineup won eight out of their nine sets. The doubles lineup completely swept Patrick Henry’s doubles teams. Wood and del Rincon took the first doubles win against Patrick Henry’s Line 1 doubles team, 6-0. After that, Carlos Solloa subbed in for del Rincon and won his match with Wood, 6-4. Del Rincon then subbed back in for Wood and finished his match with Solloa at 6-1. Coronado’s Line 2 (Peterhans and Lamb) and Line 3 (Gonzalez and Ramirez) doubles swept all of their matches, giving Coronado the final win of 17-1.

The team’s current season record is 4 wins to 2 losses.
