Are you age 50 and better? If so, you don’t want to miss out on some exciting adventures offered through the John D. Spreckels Center and Bowling Green. Recreation staff have created two types of trips over the bridge (OTB) that remove the worry of driving and parking; one of the trips involves hiking or a nature walk with lunch at a local brewery and the other is a day trip with luxury transportation provided. Three trips are currently open for registration and they are:
Views and Brews: Lake Calavera; Monday, September 25th from 8 am to 3 pm. Fee is $45 R/$55 NR, Bar Code: 16197
Lake Calavera was once an active and violent volcano. These incredible forces of nature caused a partial collapse of the structure creating a lake. Join recreation staff for a 3.25 mile moderate incline hike to the top of the volcano. You will explore diverse plant and coastal wildlife that are not typically seen in inland areas. Afterward, you will head over to the innovative Bagby Beer Company in Oceanside. Bagby prides themselves on serving world class beer, great food and providing top notch inviting hospitality.
Luxury Trip to the Griffith Observatory: Thursday, October 19th, from 12 to 10 p.m. Fee is $125 R/$150 NR, Bar Code: 16169
The Griffith Observatory is a unique hybrid of public observatory, planetarium, and exhibition space that also hosts one of the best views of the famous Hollywood sign. Luxury transportation (restroom on board), parking, gratuities, admission and one planetarium show ticket are included in the fee. Bring your own dinner or purchase one at the onsite cafe.
Trails and Ales: Daley Ranch: Monday, October 23rd, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fee is $40 R/$50 NR, Bar Code: 16218
Discover scenic views of the rolling hills just beyond Escondido. Daley Ranch is home to undisturbed native habitats that are the precious remnants of the unique flora and fauna that once covered Southern California’s Peninsular Ranger. It is dominated by an ecosystem known as coastal sage scrub, however, it has many different micro-habitats, including oak woodlands, riparian, vernal pools and ponds. You will visit Plan 9 Alehouse after.
Mark your calendars! Preregistration is required for all trips and seating is limited. To register or for more information contact the Spreckels Center.
