Islander Youth Theatre Presenting “Once On This Island”

All Schools MusicalThe Islander Youth Theatre brings to the stage “Once On This Island” as this semester’s All School Musical. Director Laura Bueno, owner of Playground Players Productions, and her wonderful cast present this beautiful story about love overcoming obstacles, even death. Filled with Caribbean-style songs and a tropical feel, Ms. Bueno was thrilled to work with this well-seasoned group of actors, after directing the Wizard of Oz last semester.

“Working with this cast has been fun because there are so many levels of ability and opportunities for each performer to shine. Some students have never been in a production before and some are veterans of the stage even at such a young age. They have been working so hard, and I know they will shine brightly in the performance,” she says. Ms. Bueno has had much experience with youth theater throughout San Diego, and she has been part of the San Diego Opera chorus for thirteen years.

Many people have been working behind the scenes of the production, but Ron and Betsy Vernetti have made it possible with a generous contribution. In memory of their son, John Vernetti, they have funded the program this year and are excited to see the show.

“Once On This Island” will open and close the same night, on June 9 only. Come see this spirited musical next Friday night at 5:30 pm.
