Everyone is welcome to attend all performances, but for this dedicated matinee the Playhouse will provide a safe and relaxed environment for children with special needs and their families. In this 70th Anniversary Season, Coronado Playhouse continues to develop outreach programs and community partnerships, to benefit and support all our communities and needs. On show day, Mayor Casey Tanaka will get the show started, and patrons will experience the following:

  • The theatre will open early so children can “meet their seat” and get comfortable with the theatre environment
  • The cast and production team will welcome the audience before the performance begins
  • House lights in the designated seating area will remain on, although still dimmed throughout the performance
  • Children have the freedom to move around the theatre should they wish, and not be restricted to staying in one place throughout the performance
  • Ear plugs will be provided upon request

Since opening on September 2nd, Seussical The Musical has played continuously to sold out houses. This vibrant and lively production features a colorful cast of characters including Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and The Cat in the Hat. The Cat in the Hat narrates the well-known tale of Horton the Elephant and the WHOs discovered living on a speck of dust. This unlikely hero faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial of epic proportions in a musical adventure that is fun for the entire family, sharing a heart-warming messages of friendship, loyalty, and family.

During the run of this production through October 9, 2016, Coronado Playhouse, The Community’s Theatre, is also raising money and awareness to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. The House is specifically designed to provide a home away from home for families with hospitalized children – including 47 bed rooms, hot meals and a children’s play area for siblings – so families can focus their attention on supporting their sick or injured child alleviating their worry of day-to-day needs. Each year, more than 1,500 families are helped, and the need for overnight services far exceeds its 47-room capacity. For more information on their programs, please visit www.rmhcsd.org.
