Coronado Holiday Cup Returns Soon (Soccer)

Source: XKSanDiego.com The Coronado Holiday Cup returns this year, Dec. 19-20, as an integral part of the Coronado Island holiday tradition. Director of the Coronado Youth Soccer League, Manny Neves, invites competitive and rec teams between U8 to U14 to compete. The CYSL provides a unique tournament format, which guarantees each team six mini games: the U8-U12 teams will play 25-minute games, while the U13-U14 teams will play 30-minute games. Full-length championship games will be played between the top two teams in each circuit. The goal is to play as many teams as possible over one weekend. Teams will get the chance to play on world-class fields across Coronado. Tidelands Field rests at the base of the Coronado Bridge and offers views of San Diego Bay and Downtown. Coronado HS offers a smooth pitch with synthetic turf fields. Tournament games will also be held at Mar Vista HS, Sunset Fields, Coronado Cays and Coronado Middle School. For any recreational teams that participate, Neves will provide a free two-hour soccer clinic that guarantees a fun and challenging training session. Neves is a former professional soccer player, an A-licensed coach, an USSF licensing instructor and an overall master in the skill of soccer. The session covers all aspects of the game: dribbling, fakes, passing, receiving, shooting and goalkeeping. With the entry deadline approaching Nov. 18, teams are urged to register as soon as possible by visiting www.coronadoholidaycup.com. Once registered, recreational teams interested in the free clinic can contact Neves at [email protected] or (619) 985-3019 to schedule a session.
