As you may be aware, Superintendent Felix is creating a committee to study adding a preschool to our district services. Dawn Ovrom is chairing the committee and the first meeting is Thursday, September 23rd, at 3:30 pm in the district board room.
The impetus for this discussion comes from the board’s direction to the superintendent to create revenue while maintaining or increasing services to the community. Committee members will include staff, teachers, parents and the board. Community members are also invited. Among a myriad of issues, the committee will explore the financial and physical feasibility, local demand and potential benefits to Coronado students of operating a district preschool.
The first order of business will be to determine who will sit on the committee.
The second order of business will be to establish a time and frequency of meetings that allows the greatest participation of all members.
Committee members will:
1. Commit to a working group (v. purely discussion);
2. Participate in open – and sometimes difficult dialogue;
3. Share committee discussions between meetings and bring feedback to the next meeting;
4. Support the final decisions and recommendations of the committee to the school board.
All meetings will be open to the public. There will be time for public questions and input, however, discussion and eventual recommendations will take place within the committee, as will the submission of a report to the board.
