CORONADO A nonprofit foundation benefiting Coronado schools has been given $3.8 million from the estate of the late Frances Harpst, a local icon known for her civic involvement.
The Coronado Schools Foundation plans to allocate approximately $160,000 of the gift annually to Coronado public schools through a new “legacy account.” An endowment committee will oversee the new spending to ensure “careful stewardship of her gift,” officials said.
The money will be used toward programs, salaries, equipment and supplies not funded or required by the state, but that are integral to a quality education, officials said.
