When Jessica Battle’s No. 24 Coronado team took the field against No. 20 Carondelet on Friday, she wasn’t sure what would happen. After all, Coronado was short seven players, including five starters.
But the Islanders got big play from underclassmen and upset Carondelet, 10-9, in a CIF intersectional. The win was Coronado’s third consecutive while Carondelet dropped to 2-1.
“I am really excited,” said Battle, Coronado’s head coach. “The brand new girls who moved up to varsity were playing tonight and they stepped up, so I was really proud of them.”
