My name is Steven Trubow. I am a forensic psychologist and software engineer. I have performed risk management for public health for the United States Department of Defense, hospitals and pharmaceutical firms all over the world. I have lived at the Coronado Shores since 2017.
Thank you for the opportunity to write to The Coronado Times on what is happening at the Coronado Shores and how it impacts residents.
For almost a week, every night from around 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm, a dozen or so people gather on the lawn behind Las Palmas (Coronado Shores) and along the Beach Boardwalk (City Property).
Many of these people drink alcohol from open containers, let their dogs run without a leash, barking and fighting with other dogs, and worst of all, a majority wear no protective masks and did not practice SOCIAL DISTANCING.
After each night, I contacted the Manager of my building, Las Palmas, who said he could not take any action at all. He said that he would pass on (the dozens of my) pictures and my written complaints to the L&R Manager who has responsibility.
Each night I called the Coronado Shores Security Office numerous times but they refused to come over and confront the people socializing without masks, drinking from open containers, letting their dogs run loose, and disturbing the peace under my fifth floor condo in the Las Palmas.
After days of ignoring my requests to enforce the rules, the Coronado Shores Security Office told me they had been instructed by the L&R Manager to IGNORE MY REQUESTS.
I decided to take the matter into my own hands.
The next evening when the socializing began, I confronted the group and ask them to take their party somewhere else. They refused and simply ignored me. I called the Coronado Police who responded in a few minutes.
Coronado Police Officer Chuck asked me if I had called Coronado Security because some of the people were on private property. I said that I had been unsuccessful for days to get the Coronado Shores Security to enforce the rules. Officer Chuck asked me to call Coronado Shores Security and have them meet the Coronado Police on the Boardwalk.
While we were waiting Officer Chuck addressed the people who were gathered on the lawn behind Las Palmas (Coronado Shores Property) and spoke to the group of people socializing on the Boardwalk Steps (City of Coronado Property).
The next day the Coronado Police Department came out to the Boardwalk behind the Las Palmas and used yellow police line tape to close the concrete blocks and steps, where dozens of people were gathering every evening without the proper social distancing.
I am so happy to report that since the night that Officer Chuck spoke to the people, the crowd has moved to a new location at the Coronado Shores, so my family and the other residents don’t have to face this nightly disturbance outside our windows.
I wish to give special thanks to Officer Chuck and the other members of the Coronado Police Department for protecting vulnerable elderly residents during this pandemic.
God Bless all of our first responders.
Sincerely yours,
Steven Trubow
