Last Monday (3/4), the Islander Boys’ Varsity Baseball team started their week with a game against El Capitan High School. Overall, Coronado’s strength in this game was batting, as their lineup had a total of eleven hits over seven innings. The Islanders took an early lead in the first, scoring two runs. On the mound, senior Sean Miley pitched for the first five innings, striking out four of El Capitan’s batters and allowing one hit. By the bottom of the fifth, Coronado took two more runs to lead 4-0. Seniors Adam Sheehan and Jon Tessier pitched the rest of the game, not allowing a single hit. Seniors Jared Pratt, Dylan Miller, sophomore Tobey Brown, and junior Kyle Phin each scored a run to give Coronado a 4-0 victory.

The Islanders continued their six-game winning streak at Francis Parker. Of the nine players on the batting lineup, each one batted three times, resulting in nine hits to get on base. Phin, who had three hits, scored two runs for the Islanders, while Brown and freshman Ryan Ward each scored one. Dylan Miller pitched the entire game and, while giving up four hits, struck out eight batters to allow only one run by Francis Parker. The Islanders took their second win of the week, 4-1.

To conclude the week, the Islanders traveled to Otay Ranch High School for what proved to be a tough loss. Both teams struggled to get on base, and the Islanders were only able to salvage two hits from Dylan Miller and Phin. Senior Luke McCollough pitched an excellent game, striking out eight players. However, he had given up six hits, which allowed Otay Ranch to score a run in the third inning. The Islanders fell 0-1—their first loss of the season.

The baseball team currently holds a season record of seven wins to one loss to one tie.

Upcoming Game:

Wednesday, March 13 vs. Montgomery High School @ 3:30 PM (Away)
