Last weekend, the Islanders’ Cross Country team ran in two different meets. The first one was held the Mount Carmel Invite held in the morning at Morley Field, in which many of the JV runners competed. In the girls’ Division-II frosh race (2.75 miles), Coronado’s top two finishers were 
Mary Byrne and Naomi York, who clocked respective times of 20:51 (Mile Pace: 7:35) and 21:13 (Mile Pace: 7:43). Running the boys’ frosh Division-II race, Xavier Czerewko and Conor Youngblood both finished with respective times of 21:17 (Mile Pace: 7:44) and 22:03 (Mile Pace: 8:01). Cole Hutcherson and Will Leonard were Coronado’s top finishers in the sophomore Division-II race, clocking 20:20 (Mile Pace: 7:24) and 21:16 (Mile Pace: 7:44), respectively.
As this race finished by 2:00 PM, Coach George Green took his varsity runners to Corona, CA for the Woodbridge Invitational. Held at the Silverlakes Sports Complex, this race was a full three miles. Of the male runners, nearly everyone finished the race under eighteen minutes. Brad Busby led the Islanders, finishing in 24th place with a time of 15:51 (Mile Pace: 5:17). Following Busby were Connor Jaynes (16:24; Mile Pace: 5:28), Grant Hawthorne (16:45; Mile Pace: 5:35), Cole Mullins (16:54; Mile Pace: 5:38), Casey Harris (17:06; Mile Pace: 5:42), Landon Mullins (17:54; Mile Pace: 5:58), and Gio Navarro (18:04; Mile Pace: 6:01).
“For the girls, our top time of 17:43 was posted by Teresa Perez, who ran in the sweepstake race,” says Coach Green. Sophomore Sofia Van Arsdale was the top female Islander in the Girls’ Varsity A Race, placing 7th with a time of 18:29 (Mile Pace: 6:10), followed by sophomore Abigail Hundley who placed 20th (18:58, Mile Pace: 6:19).
