The City recently completed the second phase of “Art Outside the Box,” wrapping six California Department of Transportation signal boxes on the state Route 75 with graphic art film. The six boxes are located adjacent to the six traffic signals between Naval Amphibious Base and the entrance to the Coronado Cays. The boxes are wrapped in images taken by local photographers of flora and fauna indigenous to the Silver Strand. The project completes the public art wrapping project initiated in 2016 that included 14 Caltrans signal boxes on the Strand and in the village on SR 75. The program features local artists and required reviews and approvals from the Public Art Program and the Cultural Arts Commission, members of the Silver Strand Beautification Committee, Caltrans, as well as the City Council.
