The City of Coronado’s John D. Spreckels Center is offering a variety of wonderful art and design activities during January.
Awaken your inner artist by learning watercolor and acrylic mediums from the former art director of design at DC Comics, Ed Roeder. His 2-hour Watercolor Painting classes will teach you to use water as a medium and how to control paint. The classes will focus on form, light and shade, indication and rendering. Fridays, January 4-25, 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. You can also take his two hour Acrylic Painting classes on Wednesdays, January 9-30, 2:30-4:30 p.m., which will focus on painting fundamentals, monochromatic and full-color schemes, how to hold the brush, and how to control paint. $80, for residents and $90, for nonresidents for Watercolor; $80, for residents and $90, for nonresidents for Acrylic. Learn the art of beautifully creating letter and symbols using calligraphy! On Mondays, January 7-28 (no class January 14), from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. instructor, Wendy Telford will provide an engaging, progressive Copperplate Calligraphy class that will teach the art of giving form to signs in an expressive, harmonious, and skillful manner staring with an overview of tools, pens, ink and paper. Must pre-register; spots are limited. Materials and tools provided by instructor; please bring a 9×12 tablet of smooth paper and a few sheets of tracing paper. $45, for resident and $56, for nonresidents.
