The Songs of Burt Bacharach Concert & Cabaret Series

Coronado Playhouse 2018 Concert & Cabaret Series continues with The Songs of Burt Bacharach, running for three performances on June 22-24, 2018 at Coronado Playhouse. The Concert & Cabaret Series highlights the talents of three eminent American songwriters. This first production, Songs For A New Year, featured the works of Jason Robert Brown and our third and final cabaret this August will showcase the genius of Stephen Sondheim. Sandwiched in between is the second show of the Series, celebrating Burt Bacharach, one the most highly decorated American pianists, vocalists and composers, whose extremely prolific career has included works for television, radio, media arts, film and the pop music scene.

At almost 90 years old, Burt Bacharach’s seven-decade career has brought us hundreds of hit songs including The Look of Love (1967), Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head (1969), Close to You (1970), That’s What Friends Are For (1986), and On My Own (1986). His many movie scores include Alfie (1966), Arthur (1981), which won best song at the 1982 Academy Awards performed by Christopher Cross, and the three extremely successful Austin Powers movies, in which Bacharach himself also appeared. In 2012 Burt Bacharach and his songwriting partner, Hal David, received the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song; the first time the honor has been given to a songwriting team. The ceremony was hosted by President Obama.

Coronado Playhouse is thrilled to present The Songs for Burt Bacharach. Board Members Tom Haine and Chris Powell will co-direct. Along with Musical Director, Christopher T. Miller (seen recently on the CPH stage as Gomez in The Addams Family), the team have assembled a group of talented artists to perform these iconic songs, featuring Sarah Alida LeClair (The Addams Family, 2018), Dianne Gray (A Little Night Music, 2016) and Lenelle Wylie (Little Shop of Horrors, 2017) alongside other Playhouse regulars and newbies. The performances will feature many of Bacharach’s most popular pieces as well as some lesser-known numbers.

Tickets are $20, general admission, and are available through Coronado Playhouse’s Box Office at (619) 435-4856 or online at www.CoronadoPlayhouse.com.
