Coronado Girl Scout Awards and “Sandy Downes Day”

On Wednesday May 9, Coronado Girl Scouts held their first ever Service Unit Awards Ceremony, which was organized by Senior Troop #5548. Awards were given to Girl Scouts for various merits including Top Cookie Sellers and Character awards.

Sandy Downes was honored for her retirement after 25 years of service to Girl Scouts. She led Troop #1, the first troop formed west of the Rockies. At the ceremony, Sandy was awarded a City Coin from Coronado’s Mayor Richard Bailey and presented with a proclamation from the County of San Diego that May 9, 2018 would be declared “Sandy Downes Day.”
