Baseball: CHS Boys Win Two and Take One Close Loss

This past week, Coronado’s Varsity Baseball team played three consecutive games. Their first, on Wednesday, was against University City High School in a close game. Having home field advantage, University City would prevail after breaking the tie of 6-6. Both teams had salvaged eleven hits during the game, but in the final play, their opponents collected one more hit to win 6-7. Leading Coronado in hits was Jared Pratt who made three of his four at-bats, while Tobey Brown led Coronado with two runs. Raden Perry pitched for the Islanders, striking out nine hitters.

The following day, Coronado faced Ramona, who took the lead in the first inning. Subbing out Perry, Sean Miley was on the mound for Coronado, who sat down seven hitters and only allowed five hits and two runs. Brown led on the offensive, once again, with two hits and two runs. At the bottom of the seventh, Coronado was up at bat in a tied game when their opponents made an error, giving Coronado a 3-2 victory.

Friday came, and Coronado was given another opportunity against University City. First on the board was University City in the second inning. At the bottom of the sixth inning, Coronado tied it up at 3-3, when Brown drove in two when he scored a home run. The game went on into extra innings. At the bottom of the twelfth, Kyle Phin was able to seal the win for the Islanders, scoring a run to win 4-3.

The Varsity team’s current record is 15 wins to 8 losses.
