Police Chief Takes a Plunge for Special Olympics

Coronado Police Chief Jon FroominCoronado Police Chief Jon Froomin is again participating in the Special Olympics San Diego Plunge, Splash and Play to raise much needed funds for Special Olympics athletes. Froomin said, “Other regions in the United States do a Polar Plunge, but seriously, in San Diego, is this possible? We changed the name for truth in advertising.”

The event takes place at Sea World’s Aquatica Water Park in Chula Vista on September 10, 2017. In addition to the Plunge, Chief Froomin and members of the Police Department will again compete in the Chiefs’ Challenge. The events comprising the challenge will not be known until the day of the event. The Challenge takes place soon after the park opens to the public, so come and cheer on our team.

The athletes of Special Olympics work hard to compete and Special Olympics gives them a venue to showcase their abilities in an environment of inclusion. While spectators watch them compete, the athletes teach them about perseverance, sportsmanship, and commitment. Special Olympics provides year rounds sports training and competition to individuals with intellectual disabilities. The athletes participate free of charge because of support from law enforcement and other generous sponsors. Chief Froomin has been supporting Special Olympics for about 15 years through fund raising, volunteering at events throughout California and serving on the San Diego Regional Leadership Council.

Help Chief Froomin support these fine athletes by donating to his Plunge. Pledges can be made by going to www.sonsc.org/polarsdplunges, scroll to Aquatica, then Donate, find Jon Froomin, and Donate Now. Chief Froomin thanks you for your continued support of Special Olympics.
