Guns…

A little true life story…  My Realtor in Ohio (who is very conservative, and who I love dearly) and I go shooting when I am in town.  He has a number of handguns (45, 40 38, and 22), and rifles (a Winchester 30-30, bolt 30-06, and a brand new AR15).  We love to debate the whole NRA and gun law thing…  So he brings out the AR15; basically a high capacity magazine, rapid fire, low caliber, high velocity bullet that is great for war, but pretty limited for hunting (squirrels maybe).  So I have to ask him, “Why the heck did you buy this?  What are you going to use it for?”  His dead serious reply was, “I got this for when the Government comes to take my guns away.”  My reply, “Dude, should the government ever come to take your guns away, they will be driving down the street in a tank, or an armor plated Humvee with a 50 cal machine gun up-top (and probably a squad of National Guard); that AR15 will only get you killed…”

People need to realize that the only way to protect your gun rights is through political means.  The only way to protect your political clout is to be rational.  The more Orlandos, Virginia Techs, Sandy Hooks, Killeens, San Ysidros, Auroras… the more the anti-gun people gain sway.  Doing comprehensive background checks, having bio-metric hand-grips, limiting magazine size…, should be seriously considered by the pro-gun people.  If, or when, any/all of these measures pass, and if those measures stop or slow down mass shootings, perhaps the anti-gun movement will lose steam…

Unless there is meaningful change, the pro-gun movement has no prayer.

Just one person’s opinion…
