Greer Lauren Goebels was loved by all who knew her. She is remembered and loved as a daughter, sister, friend, teammate, coach, and so much more. The Coronado community was shocked and heartbroken to hear of her unexpected passing on October 28, 2015. She is survived by her parents, Frank Goebels and Renee Brinkman, her brothers, Evan and Glenn Goebels, her sister-in-law, Hallie Routh Goebels, her beloved corgi Gus, and a legion of family and longtime friends.

Greer was born and raised in Coronado, a true native, from Graham Memorial Preschool, to Christ Church Day School, Coronado Middle School, and Coronado High School Class of 2008.

Many had the privilege of playing soccer, lacrosse, or both, with Greer before she graduated from Coronado High. She led her fellow lacrosse teammates in 2007 and 2008 when she served as their team captain. She garnered All-American accolades in 2007 and 2008 as well as Academic All-American honors. She went on to play Division I lacrosse at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. No one was surprised when she led her team with ample draw controls, goals, and turnovers. She was an amazing player who constantly challenged herself and encouraged her teammates to be better each day. She continued her legacy while playing for San Diego Club, a post-collegiate team and serving as an assistant coach for the University of San Diego Women’s Club Lacrosse team. Anyone who was lucky enough to know Greer knew how important the game was to her. She loved athletics and life and family and friends.

Greer touched the lives on many both on and off the field. She worked at a marketing technology company in Downtown San Diego called Underground Elephant. She started as a marketing coordinator in November 2014 and based on her exceptional performance, her uncanny ability to collaborate, and her delightful interpersonal skills, she was quickly promoted to a project manager rule in June 2015. She was beloved by her 100 fellow coworkers, who say they were incredibly lucky to work alongside her.

In honor of Greer, and the sport she yearned for, a lacrosse scholarship has been established in her name at Coronado High School. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior with a strong commitment to athletics (specifically lacrosse), academics, and leadership during his or her collegiate career.
