Boy Scout Troop #806 Goes Under the Razor to Support Childhood Cancer Research (VIDEO)

This past week, Boy Scout Troop #806 hosted a fundraiser at the local barber shop, Bow Ties and Haircuts, where members shaved their heads in support of childhood cancer research and to raise money for St. Baldrick’s Foundation. At the event, community members gathered to watch as a total of seven people went under the razor to participate in the fundraiser.

To add to this incredible event, Coronado High School Sophomore Nicholas Olmo spoke as the honorary guest and shared his breathtaking story about his experience battling cancer at a young age. Although Nicholas was faced with life threatening obstacles, he remained courageous throughout an extended period of time in treatment. During his talk with the troop and other guests he displayed courage and optimism, and brightened the room with his positive outlook.

Garrick Sutton, CHS Sophomore and Troop #806 member, says “Troop #806 started raising money for childhood cancer research 4 years ago. This event is great for the community because money actually comes back to our local hospitals. We also have kids in the community that have battled cancer in the past- like Nick, our honored guest.” The money raised from this event will contribute to the troop’s goal of raising $17,500 for St. Baldrick’s Foundation by the end of the year. So far, the troop has made a total of $3,000 towards this goal, and plan to host more events in the future to support this great cause.
