Highlights from the City Manager’s Weekly Update: Port District to Consider Projects to improve Port lands in Coronado

Each week, the City of Coronado City Manager’s Office provides an update that includes information on programs, services and issues within the City, as well as news, project updates and follow-up information when applicable. Featured below are highlights from that update. The entire City Manager’s Weekly Update can be found on the City’s website.

Port of San Diego CIP Projects

In the near future, the San Diego Unified Port District will invite Coronado to submit proposed projects to improve or benefit Port lands in Coronado. In the past, the Port has provided funding to improve the Chula Vista Bayfront, “street-ends” in Imperial Beach, San Diego’s Broadway Pier and the rehabilitation of the Glorietta Bay Boat Launch Ramp. A new list of proposed projects will be identified for improvements related to Port Property.

Sewer and Alley Improvement Project

Work continued this week with the contractor pouring the new concrete surface in the alley between Orange and D avenues and continuing to replace the sewer line in the alley between D and E avenues. The contractor is coordinating with EDCO to ensure trash collection in all work zones is properly picked up on the regularly scheduled collection day. After all sewer installation work is complete in the alleys, the contractor will move on to the sewer main replacement on Miguel Avenue from Pomona to San Luis Rey avenues. (pictured at right)

15th Tee Barrier Netting Project

This week, the contractor working on the 15th Tee Barrier Netting Project installed the poles to hold the netting. The City is erecting the netting to prevent errant golf balls for entering the Tennis Center facility. Mow strips also were installed to allow for proper maintenance of the landscaping around the new barrier netting.

STEAM Explorers

The new Recreation Services STEAM Explorers class gets participants to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (“STEAM”) with realistic activities each week after school. The children will be visiting museums, hiking, designing machines, solving environmental challenges and investigating global challenges. This past week, the children visited the Old Mission Dam to learn about its engineering aspect. They also visited the Police Department, where they received a lesson in forensic science. For science and technology programs offered this summer for children, check out the Recreation Department’s Summer Brochure online.
