Is the Bridge Closed? Official City Notifications by Email, Text or Web

The City of Coronado has begun using a new service to help residents access important, valuable community information when they need it, using the latest technology. Coronado will create and publish messages through Nixle. Nixle will then deliver this information instantly through text, email (see sample below) and web message to those community members who sign up for the service. Notifications can also be accessed online at Nixle’s website at www.nixle.com.

Examples of messages include traffic back-ups on the San Diego-Coronado Bridge or important community meetings, as well as other relevant safety and community information. The service is secure, reliable and easy to use. You decide what information you want and whether you want it sent to your cell phone, email or simply over the web.

As a resident, there are several simple ways to register to receive both Coronado Police and City of Coronado notifications: 1) Use the form above, 2) Text your ZIP CODE to 888777 from your mobile phone, or 3) Go to www.nixle.com and sign up. Residents may customize their Nixle settings by going to www.nixle.com and creating a User Profile.

The City has two Nixle accounts. You can receive relevant community advisories, such as upcoming meetings, by signing up for the City of Coronado’s Nixle account. The Police Department’s Nixle account contains traffic incidents and back-ups. You may have seen the Police Department’s Nixle alerts, which are linked to the City of Coronado Police Department’s Facebook Page and to the City’s Twitter account. If you do not have a Facebook or Twitter account, you can still get alerted to these important messages through a text, email or web message. The Police Department alerts have been mostly used for traffic incidents but may also be used for actual emergencies, such as a city- or countywide power outage.

Sign up for Nixle today. You choose the information you want, for the addresses you want, all delivered at no cost. Please take a moment to register. You can also access Nixle’s Frequently Asked Questions at www.nixle.com/consumer-faqs/.

We also ask that you let your neighbors or friends in the community know about Nixle and encourage them to register. We believe this service will allow us to keep you informed in the most convenient, reliable way possible.

If you have any questions or need help signing up, call (619) 522-7340.
