Work on a permanent roundabout at the intersection of Pomona and Adella avenues and Seventh Street is set to begin Friday, resulting in the closure of Pomona from Glorietta Boulevard to Sixth street until the project is completed.
Those who routinely use Pomona to reach the San Diego-Coronado Bridge or points south are encouraged to use an alternative route during construction, which may take anywhere from 30 days to up to three months. Adjacent residents will still have access to the area.
Construction crews on Friday will begin setting up detour signs and traffic control, locating all existing underground utilities and removing the rubber curbs currently in place. Demolition work is anticipated to begin Monday, June 9, on the Pomona, Seventh and Adella Intersection Improvements Project.
The contractor, Tri-Group Construction and Development Inc., is required to notify adjacent residents regarding the construction start date a minimum of three days ahead of work commencing. Those notices should be going out today.
In an effort to encourage the contractor to complete the work in a shorter time frame, the City has offered a stepped incentive clause to complete the project in 30 or 45 working days or less. Construction will be limited to the hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The east side of Adella, adjacent to Mathewson Park, will be a staging area for equipment and materials.
The City, which has allocated $1.3 million for the Capital Improvement Project, also will provide information to nearby residents and work to reduce construction and impacts to traffic.
