San Diego, CALIF- The Jewels of San Diego Gala 2014 – Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend illuminated the fabulous Hotel Del Coronado with fine dining and dancing in celebration of the philanthropic contributions of prominent San Diegans all while benefiting children and adults with disabilities at The Arc of San Diego.
A cocktail reception dazzled San Diego’s finest citizens and leaders with light hors d’oeuvres, an exciting silent auction, and the playful crooning of live renditions of Rat Pack standards, conjuring an enchanting appearance by Marilyn Monroe herself. After a fine display of generous bidding, guests ascended to the breathtaking Ocean View Ballroom where an equally enthralling live auction boasted high ticket items including dinner for eight at Bertrand at Mister A’s in downtown San Diego as well as a staycation at the incomparable La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.
Appetites for philanthropy satisfied, guests celebrated with tender short rib resting in a bed of mashed potatoes and broccolini followed by a dessert of an amarula Bavarian bombe with dulce de leche center. Following this decadent culinary showcase, the electrifying performances of Wayne Foster Music & Entertainment inspired a night vibrating with dancing and good will. Such revelry was outmatched only by the presentation of a U.S. House of Representatives Proclamation from Congressman Juan Vargas to Phyllis and John Parrish and the declaration of April 12, 2014 as Sally B. Thornton Day by the City of San Diego.
