Kate Purdy Shultz, 62, of Coronado, California, passed away to be with her beloved husband, Nick, on Friday, September 27, 2013, at Scripps Mercy Hospital In San Diego, CA.
Kate was born November 30, 1950, in Highland, Illinois, the daughter of Leslie E. and Julia C. Purdy. She graduated with honors from East Richland High School in Olney, IL. In 1968 and graduated with honors from the University Of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in 1972.
Kate started her own successful graphic design firm in Springfield, IL., operating it for several years before moving to Coronado in 1989, where she met her future husband, Nick. They were married January 23, 1999 and remained together until Nick’s passing on August 15, 2013.
Kate was a graphic artist and award-winning jewelry designer by trade and loved her work. She also loved beautiful Coronado, all her outdoor activities such as tennis, wind surfing, pickle ball, bike riding, jazzercise, yoga, water aerobics and her great friends. She and Nick also loved animals and were supporters of The San Diego Zoo. They were also devoted practitioners of Transcendental Meditation for many years. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Olney, IL. and The Self Realization Fellowship Temple in San Diego.
Kate had a productive and creative life. She loved her husband, where she lived, what she did as a career and her family and friends.
She is survived by a brother, Steve Purdy and his wife Arlene of Tucson, AZ., a nephew, Nathan, a niece, Jacey Purdy and her companion, Hugh, a nephew, Trent Purdy and his wife, Kara, all of Tucson, AZ., as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Services will be held Sunday, November 10th, 2013 at 1 P.M. at the Self Realization Fellowship Temple, 3027 E. 1st Ave. in San Diego. All are welcome.
