COMICON International San Diegothe world largest comic book, graphic arts and film conventionis well known for its extensive color souvenir book that is given to all attendees, filled with profiles, articles, and tribute artwork. In tribute to the 60th anniversary of Charles Schultz’ beloved comic strip “Peanuts,” the 2010 featured a selection of professional and fan artwork that included a drawing by Mercy Mei Tangredi, age 6 & ¾, a soon-to-be second grader at Silver Strand Elementary School. Mercy submitted her art over four months ago for consideration, but was surprised when she saw it in the book. “I was bouncing up and down when I saw it,” said Mercy, “I was so excited.” Mercy says that her favorite “Peanuts” character is Snoopy, who she put in the center of the page, “because he is so funny.” “My theme is that Snoopy, Charlie Brown, and Lucy are still happy after 60 years,” explained Mercy. Apparently, the COMICON organizers agreed. This is Mercy’s second great success in art competitions, having won the 2008 Coronado Thanksgiving Turkey Coloring Contest in the Kindergarten and First Grade Division. At that time she attended Kindergarten at the Early Childhood Development Center in the village.
