The study is being done to find out ways to alleviate traffic from Coronado streets. So far, the study has cost $13 million.
“I’m just looking for accurate, complete, open, transparent information from the city of Coronado as to where the money has gone,” said Coronado City Councilwoman Barbara Denny.
Denny wanted to know what you get for $13 million, so she asked for specifics from the city. She asked:
“How much money has Coronado spent toward the tunnel study?”
“How much money has Coronado secured for tunnel construction?”
However, the answers Denny received were handwritten and vague. One simply said, “Beyond scope.”
“It’s easiest to fulfill a request when you know what someone’s requesting,” said Coronado Mayor Casey Tanaka.
Tanaka told I-Team reporter Mitch Blacher that Denny’s request was not clear. He wants a tunnel, and said residents do as well. He pointed to a 1998 vote when 83 percent of Coronado voters said they wanted the city to study the cost.
