CORONADO VFW MEMORIAL SET TO OPEN MEMORIAL DAY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Mike Turner 619-865-4809 CORONADO VFW MEMORIAL SET TO OPEN MEMORIAL DAY CORONADO – The long-awaited Coronado VFW Salute to Service Memorial is scheduled to open to the public Memorial Day, May 25. Two memorial walls are now in place and a flood of veterans and active duty military have turned out to purchase memorial tiles.

Mike Turner displays a laser-etched memorial tile. Similar tiles will adorn the Coronado VFW’s new memorial walls. The James and Gabi Styer-Hurst Salute to Service Memorial will open to the public Memorial Day. The entire project, once completed, will consist of three polished block walls and engraved memorial tiles designed to honor service members past and present. Viewing of the memorial plaques will be accessible from a curved path and will contain benched seating and low-level lighting for night viewing and quiet meditation. This emotional tribute has been constructed on the lawn of the Coronado VFW at 557 Orange Avenue in memory of, and sponsored by the late James and Gabi Styer-Hurst of Coronado. It faces out on to Coronado’s main boulevard. Laser-etched memorial tiles honor service members with their name, branch of service, rank, and dates of service. The tiles are being sold for $100 to VFW members and families, and $150 to all others. Those eligible to be included in the memorial include anyone serving, or who has served honorably in any branch of the United States armed forces and their families. This includes members of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. The VFW has been a voice for America’s veterans for more than a century symbolizing volunteerism and community service. Their purpose is to preserve and support the patriotic and historical interest of our country, communities and veterans. For information on joining the Coronado VFW or buying an etched plaque on the Memorial Wall contact Michael Turner at 619-865-4809 or [email protected], or visit the Coronado VFW post web site at www.vfwpost2422.com.
