Girls Division III Soccer: La Jolla sophomore keeps hot foot going

EL CAJON – How could La Jolla’s Callan Parra top scoring the overtime goal that lifted the Vikings to victory in the Division III semifinals? Recording the last two goals to seal a 4-0 victory over top-seeded Coronado in the soccer final last night at Valhalla High would do quite nicely. “I just like to help my team,” said Parra, a sophomore in her second varsity season. “It was definitely a team effort. This is awesome. This was one of our goals this season.” The second-seeded Vikings (15-3-2) won their first title since 2000 with nine starters back from last year’s team that also reached the final. “Our girls always had it,” La Jolla coach Kristin Jones said. “It was a matter of finding consistency. Our upperclassmen wouldn’t accept anything but a win.” The Vikings struck for three second-half goals to pull away from Coronado (15-5-1), last year’s Division IV champion, which won both regular-season encounters with La Jolla this year.
