Wrapping up the Islander Cross Country season, the awards banquet was a chance to honor some of the many standout athletes.
Girls MVP: Renee Phillips
Renee was All-Eastern League and won the CIF Division IV Championship race with the 4th fastest time out of all runners from all divisions. In fact her time of 16:28 was the fastest time ever for an Islander girl on the course. She is the only girl in the history of CHS to win CIF more than one time (she also won last year). She also made the All San Diego First team for Cross Country (more on that below).
Boys MVP: Luke Klingenberg
Luke was All-Eastern League and All CIF Division IV. He qualified for the Cross Country state meet as an individual. In track as a freshman he posted the best frosh time for the 1600 with a time of 4:26.61.
Girls ISF award: Jasmine Rippey
Boys ISF award: Spencer Busby
Rookie of the year for girls was Teresa Perez
Teresa was the Eastern League Champion, All-CIF Division IV, and made the All San Diego second team for Cross Country.
Rookie of the year for boys was Cole Mullins
Only a freshman, Cole ran third for us most of the year, and even though he was sick during the Eastern League finals, he was our fifth finisher to help win the Eastern League Title for Boys.
The Girls were also Eastern League Champs as well as CIF Division IV champs for the 5th year in a row.
