Coronado, CA – Parenting today can feel like a lot of guesswork. Coronado SAFE hopes to provide parents with some new insights at their 4th Annual Parent Conference on Saturday, January 30th. This event is a unique opportunity to hear leaders in their field speak on the latest research in child and adolescent development and the new scientific research on successful parenting. Featuring two dynamic keynote speakers along with four in-depth expert workshops, the event is set to draw a large crowd.
“We are thrilled to be bringing such big names in for this annual event,” said Georgia Ferrell, Executive Director at Coronado SAFE. “Giving our local community the chance to hear Dr. Diana Divecha and motivational speaker Mike Pierce speak on overcoming the challenges of parenting is an opportunity I hope every parent, grandparent and caregiver takes.”
Dr. Diana Divecha, a developmental psychologist and research affiliate for the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, will present groundbreaking research on the young teen brain and provide critical insight into effective parenting during adolescence. By knowing more about the unique teen brain, parents will learn to separate unusual, but age-appropriate behavior from that which might require intervention. She will teach parents how to harness their child’s passions and creativity and how to teach them to craft their own identities and optimize their brains. Dr. Divecha is a regular contributor to The Huffington Post and she has also been featured in Time, Harvard Business Review, Psychology Today and The Washington Post.
The second keynote presentation by hugely popular motivational speaker Mike Pierce will center on helping our youth find their passion and motivation. A two-time polar marathoner, “Antarctic Mike” now travels the nation speaking about the importance of being mentally focused and conditioned to run life’s most challenging marathons. Unexpected changes and unforeseen obstacles are a constant in today’s parenting, but he will teach parents how to tackle these challenges and succeed.
As part of the conference, parents can choose to attend two out of four additional workshops. These interactive sessions with experts will delve into parents’ biggest concerns, from balancing time with the digital screen to building a happy, healthy family with mindful parenting:
