September 3, 2012 – The San Diego Performing Arts League has announced that 30 volunteers have been selected by local arts organizations to be honored this year at the 20th Star Awards. The arts organizations are recognizing their volunteers for their dedication and the crucial role they have played in helping their respective organizations weather the current economic climate.
The San Diego Performing Arts League’s Star Awards honors volunteers of San Diego County arts organizations, and recognizes the indispensable role that volunteers play in the arts community. Each organization selects its own special volunteer to be recognized. These honored volunteers have donated countless hours to music, theater, dance and other cultural institutions in San Diego County.
The Coronado School of the Arts Foundation is delighted to honor Irv Kass, who has offered his time to CoSA on a voluntary basis for over a decade.
The 20th Star Awards will take place on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at the Lyceum Theatre at 79 Horton Plaza, San Diego, CA 92101, starting at 7:30 PM.
This year’s ceremony will have a Roaring 20s theme and feature local artists and special guests performing songs and dances from Broadway shows set in the 1920’s. Costume participation by audience members will be welcomed, but not required. Attendees will be encouraged to shake out their flapper dresses and dust off their fedora hats and pinstripe suits to visit this “Roaring 20’s Speakeasy” celebration. In the ‘spirit’ of prohibition, adults (21 and older with a photo ID) who arrive at 7:00 PM in 1920’s attire will receive a complimentary swig of wine.
The San Diego Performing Arts League is an arts-service umbrella organization comprised of local performing arts organizations, including Coronado School of the Arts, and is dedicated to supporting and promoting the region’s performing arts. SDPAL operates the Arts Tix booth at Horton Plaza, as well as the online SDArtsTix website. Arts Tix is the only not-for-profit ticket vendor in the San Diego region and supports local performing arts groups by selling discount and full-price tickets. Arts Tix’s income helps to fund SDPAL’s programs and services to the performing arts community.
