Coronado Rotaract Trivia Raises Money For Traveling Stories

Submitted by Alyssa Burns, Rotaract

Coronado Rotaract, which formed in January 2019, continues the success of their trivia fundraisers with Holiday Trivia. The millennial based version of Coronado’s Rotary is identifying causes they care about and imagining their own ways to raise funds.

Rotaract Treasurer, Alyssa Burns, and President, Mandy Rowe.

Holiday Trivia took place on Tuesday, December 3rd from 7 to 9 pm raising funds for San Diego based nonprofit- Traveling Stories. All donations made help support their StoryTent programs. These toys will act as prizes for the 2020 program year. Nicky Rotten’s graciously allowed use of their space, as well as presented drink and appetizer deals for participants, and a generous sized gift certificate for the winning team. Coronado Rotaract thanks Casey Tanaka, with his continued support by hosting the trivia event and creating the questions.

Competing Trivia Team

About 50 participants began the competition and made it through the two hours of holiday based questions. For reference, questions included: who is Zooey Deschanel’s character in Elf (Jovie) and what were the top ten Christmas movies (would you believe Die Hard made the list!). Mandy Rowe, Rotaract President says, “This was one of our most successful events! It was so fun and I’m so thankful for the toy donations and the people that supported the event. We were able to overflow the [Traveling Stories] box of toys for the organization!” In addition to the toy donations, cash donations were also made. The winning team kindly auctioned off the gift certificate raising even more for Traveling Stories!
