Volleyball: Lady Islanders Suffer Tough Loss to Mission Bay

Jenna Tocorzic sets to Elizabeth Hunsaker.
The team celebrates after their first game.

Coronado had a rough start trailing by eight points early in their match against Mission Bay. Sophomore Zoe Johnstad stepped up earning 11 points with her consistent serve to close out the first set for Coronado 25-21. However, Mission Bay won the next three sets: 25-20, 25-17 and 25-14.

Zoe Johnstad scores 11 points off her serve.

The Islanders played with intensity, but this wasn’t enough to put points on the board. Coach Adeile Ahmu felt that Mission Bay outplayed the Islanders. The Islanders also hurt their own cause with too many errors.

Islander Liz Hunsaker led the team with 12 kills. Sophomores Marlie Meoni and Zoe Johnstad  combined for 16 digs.  The Islanders current record is 11-7.

The Islanders next game is at Christian High School
