138 students from each of Coronado’s schools took part in the City of Coronado Recreation Department’s Annual Thanksgiving Coloring Contest. The colorful turkeys were submitted from kindergartners through fifth graders and had been decorated using markers, colored pencils and crayons as the art medium.
Prizes were awarded to contest winners at the November 6 City Council meeting by the City Council and Mayor.
First Place Winners:
- kindergarten and first grade – Hunter Petersen, a kindergartner at Silver Strand Elementary School.
- second and third grade – Summer Slappy, a second grader at Silver Strand Elementary School.
- fourth and fifth grade – Madeline Noble, a fourth grader at Village Elementary School.
All first place winners were awarded a turkey to cook for their Thanksgiving feast.
Second Place Winners:
- kindergarten and first grade – Luca Irvine, a kindergartner at Christ Church Day School.
- second and third grade – Amanda Puig Robles, a second grader at Village Elementary School.
- fourth and fifth grade – Sabrina Puig Robles, a fifth grader at Village Elementary School.
Third Place Winners:
- kindergarten and first grade – Erica Calisch,a first grader at Village Elementary School.
- second and third grade – Elizabeth Lauder, a third grader at Village Elementary School.
- fourth and fifth grade – Noah Skaalen, a fourth grader at Our Lady of Grace.
All second and third place winners were awarded a holiday pie of their choosing to pick up at Wells Fargo Bank, the host of Mama’s Kitchen Holiday Pie in the Sky Event.
The Annual Turkey Coloring Contest event is brought to the City of Coronado through the generous donation of the Coronado Junior Woman’s Club. All entries are on display in the Coronado Community Center.
