On Saturday, the Varsity Cross Country team ran in the 45th annual Stanford Invitational meet. This race is 5,000-meters along the school’s golf course, and, although lacking any major hills, it is a tough and grassy path. “Stanford is one of the big meets in California and draws both high school and college teams from all over the state as well as from around the country,” says Coach Green.
Competing in the Division-IV race, the boys’ team placed eighth among the other teams in their division. Senior Brad Busby finished in 21st place, clocking a time of 16:49, followed by senior Connor Jaynes in 28th with a time of 16:56. Cole Mullins finished with a time of 17:25, followed by Landon Mullins (17:52), Casey Harris (18:29), and Grant Hawthorne (18:41).
In the Girls’ Division-IV race, Teresa Perez finished in fifth place with a time of 18:40—only seventeen seconds behind the winner of the race. Next for the Islanders, Abigail Hundley clocked 20:07, followed by Madden Hundley (21:08), Sofia Van Arsdale (21:41), Lauren White (23:09), and Regina Czerewko (23:32).
