County health officials issued an advisory for North Beach on Wednesday, August 22, after Coronado City staff forwarded early results from North Beach samples taken on Monday, August 20, indicating bacteria (enterococcus) counts above public notification thresholds.
The City took the samples as part of a regularly scheduled, ocean water sampling program at North Beach. The City will continue to conduct tests until the samples indicate the water test results are below advisory thresholds for recreational use.
The County Department of Environmental Health issued an advisory at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday and signs were placed in the area advising swimmers to avoid water contact.
Out of an abundance of caution, additional, non-scheduled ocean water samples were retrieved on Tuesday, August 21, at two locations at Central Beach. Prior to yesterday’s North Beach result, no samples retrieved over the past three weeks exceeded the allowances for any tracked pathogens.
