- New Ferry Landing Restaurant Building Approved: The San Diego Unified Port District board approved a plan earlier this week for Ferry Landing Associates, which also owns Flagship Cruises and Events, to build a new one-story building at 1355 First Street to house up to two new restaurants. The 7,500-square-foot building will sit on a vacant, half-acre dirt lot next to Il Fornaio restaurant at the Coronado Ferry Landing. Construction is expected to begin in 2019. The project would operate under the existing 40-year lease with the Port, which will expire in 2037. The building will accommodate 300 patrons, including 190 inside and 110 outside. Parking for the project would be provided within the existing 269 spaces in the lot south of and adjacent to the project.
- Seasonal Kelp Clean-up: Due to the high temperatures this week, the offshore kelp beds have begun dying off and coming ashore. Public Services ordered a second front end loader for beach operations for the next two weeks. It will be delivered Monday, July 30.This is a naturally occurring phenomena this time of year. One loader can adequately rake the kelp into piles to ensure the surf zone is accessible to beachgoers but the second loader can relocate and bury the piles quick enough to avoid the offensive smells of drying and decomposing kelp. The Beach Crew is working hard to rake, pile and bury the kelp.
- Lime Bike Pays Fees, Picks up Property: Lime Bike, which has had more than 100 of its dockless bicycles impounded and stored at the City’s Public Services storage yards, paid nearly $9,300 in fees on Monday, July 23, and retrieved the 94 bikes associated with that payment on Wednesday, July 25.
