EDITOR’S NOTE:  Amalo Brew is longer at this location in the Shores.  They do have a location at the Coronado Library at 640 Orange Avenue.  More details.

Alex Malo, the owner of Amalo Brew Coffee (the coffee cart located on the library’s front patio), has expanded. The long anticipated wait is over and he is now fully operational with his second stand at the Coronado Shores, next to the pool and the Beach Club.

In addition to the coffee drinks he masterfully creates to perfection, he also offers pre-made sandwiches, wraps, salads, croissants, hot dogs, and tamales. And of course, the same delicious donuts many have come to love.

Business is booming and while I was there it was crazy busy. He shared that that’s the way it’s been since he opened at the beginning of July. Alex spent many months going through the proper channels with the Shores and the City of Coronado to get the appropriate permits to operate year-round in the new location.

He shared with me how grateful he is to have been serving the community with his flagship location for two years. If you have ever been by the library stand you know he greets everyone with kindness and a huge smile. I have seen him interact with kids, who after school hang out at the library, as well as the elderly and our few but present homeless, some of whom he’s empowered with tasks, and always with patience and kindness. This same attitude of gratitude was present at the new location.

During this summer, Alex has temporarily closed the library location. He is a one-man show for now so can’t serve both locations at the same time. As the school year approaches he is strategizing the operations of both locations with the intention to be able to serve the library, business as usual. The hours for the library location will be determined as he finds the help he needs. As for the Coronado Shores location, he is open seven days a week from 7am to 4pm (although when I was there he stayed open well after normal business hours to meet the needs of the hungry and thirsty crowd).

Alex Malo, community member and business owner, is doing what he loves by pouring his heart and soul into every cup of coffee he makes.
