Port of San Diego Approves Support for 66 Waterfront Events in FY 18/19

As part of ongoing efforts to support a vibrant and active waterfront, the Port of San Diego has committed to supporting 66 special events around San Diego Bay during fiscal year 2018/2019.

Each year through its Tidelands Activation Program, the Port actively supports events that engage and inspire residents and visitors to enjoy San Diego Bay and its dynamic waterfront. The events take place throughout the year in all five Port cities – Chula Vista, Coronado, Imperial Beach, National City and San Diego. The Port’s support, approved by the Board of Port Commissioners as part of the Port’s FY 18/19 budget, comprises $776,700 in sponsorship funding with an additional $1,148,096 in the form of waived fees.

“We are proud to support a wide variety of events in our many beautiful bayfront parks and on our piers. We invite and encourage locals and visitors to join us – from festivals and fitness events, to films and fireworks, everyone is sure to have a lot of fun on San Diego Bay,” said Chairman Rafael Castellanos, Board of Port Commissioners.

All events were selected through a rigorous public evaluation process led by the Tidelands Activation Program Advisory Committee, chaired by Commissioner Garry Bonelli. Disbursement of funding for all of the events is subject to environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act and the completion of individual agreements with each event organizer. Visit the Port’s Tidelands Activation Program webpage for the latest event information.
