Special Events Security Bollards The City purchased steel security bollards that can be used to cordon off areas for special events such as the Fourth of July parade route. To facilitate the temporary installation of these bollards for special events, small base plates and foundations are being installed across numerous streets throughout the City. Please use caution when driving through the construction zones. All work is expected to be completed by mid-June. Security experts have recommended “hard” barricades as a best practice for large public gatherings. They are easily installed and removed. The Fourth of July parade route will not be altered. However, due to the base plate installations, several bus stops for the Free Summer Shuttle and the Metropolitan Transit System’s 901 bus will be temporarily relocated or closed during work hours.

BollardsSummer Prep: Memorial Day weekend is here and Public Services crews are busy preparing for the upcoming summer season:

  • Facilities staff overhauled the portable restroom that sits at the beach end of Avenida del Sol. Two new pumps were installed, new isolation valves, and upsized piping on the discharge lines. The restroom was put in place on Thursday, May 24, and is ready for the Memorial Day weekend. Temporary toilets in place during the upgrades were picked up Friday, May 25.
  • The new beach sanitizer was put into action at Stingray Point. Beach Division crews have been thoroughly sanitizing the beaches for this Memorial Day weekend. Fire rings have been prepped and the surrounding area will be sanitized throughout the weekend. Beach goers are reminded not to use wood pallets.
