Teresa Perez wins the race

After a long summer of training, the cross country team started their season strong at the Vaquero Stampede this past Saturday. Although they did not bring their complete team, the girls’ Varsity team won the Division 2 Junior/Senior race, with four of their girls in the top ten finishers. Teresa Perez finished the 1.65-mile course in first place out of almost 100 runners with a time of 9:25. Madden Hundley took third place, Naya Tamariz took fourth, Claire Morris took sixth, and Natalya Gomez took nineteenth, practically sweeping the race.

Abigail Hundley and Jessica Ehret push each other to the finish line

In the Division 2 Freshman/Sophomore race, only two girls ran. Abigail Hundley and Jessica Ehret finished in 8th and 9th place, respectively. Grant Hawthrone finished twentieth in the boys’ division with a time of 9:19.

Spencer Busby finishes 7th

The Junior/Senior boys did quite well in their division, as well. Spencer Busby finished the 2.15-mile course in 7th place with a time of 10:57. Other finishers were Kenneth May, Cole Nichols, and Connor Jaynes.
