The City of Coronado Presents Movies on The Bay 2017

On Friday, August 11th you can be an audience-member for the “American Idol-like Singing Competition” when Illumination Entertainment’s film SING is presented on the Big Screen at the Coronado Ferry Landing.

Sing movieThis 3-D computer animated comedy film features the voices of Matthew McConaughey as Buster Moon, an optimistic Koala working to save an old theater; along with Reese Witherspoon as Rosita, the Momma Pig to twenty-five piglets; Seth MacFarlane as Mike, a Frank Sinatra-esque Mouse, Scarlett Johansson as the Punk Rocker Porcupine, Ash and John C. Reilly as the pessimistic Sheep. These very “human-like” animal crooners are all trying out for this singing contest in the hope of winning the $100,000 Grand Prize!

The movie Sing will take you on a musical journey as the soundtrack includes sixty-five pop songs including the music of Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jepsen, Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Leonard Cohen. Described by critics as “colorfully animated, cheerfully undemanding entertainment with a solid voice cast and a warm-hearted storyline that lives up to it’s title,” Sing was nominated for both a Golden Globe Award as The Best Animated Film and for the Best Original Song, “Faith” by Stevie Wonder and Ariana Grande.

Families are invited to come to the Coronado Ferry Landing at 6:30pm on August 11th to participate in the FREE pre–screen activities including crafts, games and contests. Sing on the big screen will start at approximately 8:00pm.

Sing comes to Coronado as a feature film of Coronado’s Movies on the Bay Series. For movie viewing, it is suggested to bring a blanket or beach chair to sit on and a jacket to keep warm. Also, families can bring a picnic or purchase food at one of the many Ferry Landing Eateries to enjoy before or during the movie. The Free Coronado Movies on the Bay Series is sponsored by the Port of San Diego Tidelands Activation Program designed to support a vibrant and active waterfront with events that engage the community and inspire visitors to enjoy San Diego Bay.
