Chamber to Recognize Award Winners at Annual Celebrate Coronado Event

It’s not often that we have the chance to thank the men and women who protect and care for this city. The police officers, firefighters, lifeguards and city employees who safeguard our streets, houses, beaches and parks. They work hard day in and day out, so the Coronado Chamber of Commerce has set aside Wednesday, July 19th as the day to thank them at their annual Celebrate Coronado event, a community-wide celebration honoring our city and all its local heroes.

“We would love to have the entire community come out to join us in our annual celebration of all things Coronado,” said Sue Gillingham, Executive Director at the Coronado Chamber of Commerce.

The event is open to the public and tickets are now on sale for just $50. The Chamber is also asking the community to help “Host a Hero” at the event. For just $50, you can purchase a ticket so that a Coronado firefighter, police officer, lifeguard or city employee can attend this annual event, thrown in their honor, for free.

“Celebrate Coronado is our chance to thank our local firefighters, lifeguards, police officers and city employees for all they do,” Executive Director Sue Gillingham said. “It’s such a great event each year, and we hope the community will come out to help us recognize these heroes.”

This event serves as the Chamber’s Annual Community Awards, including the local Police Officer of the Year, Firefighter of the Year, Lifeguard of the Year, City Employee of the Year and the newly introduced Naval Base Coronado Firefighter of the Year. Additionally, the Chamber will induct their 2016-2017 Board of Directors and will present their selected Volunteer of the Year and Lewis R. Hardy, Jr. Award for service to the community.

“The Navy is such a large part of this community that we wanted to also recognize their hardworking heroes, too,” said Gillingham. “Hosting a hero is the perfect way to thank these hardworking men and women for all they do for us.”

The award winners have been selected and the Chamber is pleased to announce the awards as follows:

  • Police Officer(s) of the Year- Christopher Bellini and Maria Gonzalez
  • Firefighter of the Year- Josh Scarboro
  • Lifeguard of the Year- Brittany Hansen
  • NBC Firefighter of the Year- Petty Officer First Class Anthony Beck

All are invited to attend this celebratory evening to show our gratitude for these amazing award winners, and tickets are now on sale for just $50 on the Chamber’s website.
