HSC-4, HSM-78 Returning to Naval Air Station North Island

The “Black Knights” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 4 and the “Blue Hawks” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 78 are scheduled to return home to Naval Air Station North Island (NASNI) in Coronado June 22 following a six-month deployment to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility with Carrier Strike Group 1 and Carrier Air Wing 2.

Throughout the deployment, HSC-4 personnel and MH-60S Seahawk helicopters were embarked aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70).

HSM-78 personnel and MH-60R Seahawk helicopters were embarked aboard USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112), USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108), USS Lake Champlain (CG 57) and USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70).

HSC-4’s primary mission areas are logistics, fleet support operations, mobility, combat search and rescue, anti-surface warfare, support of special operations forces and command, control and communication. HSM-78’s mission capabilities include search and rescue, mobility, electronic warfare, surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and command, control and communications.
