Coronado’s United States Tennis Association (USTA) Junior 14u 2.9 tennis team had an undefeated season with a record of 8-0, winning their flight and advancing to Southern California Sectionals in Long Beach last weekend.
The team has come close to qualifying many times over the past few seasons, and they are thrilled to finally make it. They won both matches on Saturday; the first one 31-14 and the second one 31-17. These wins moved them into the semifinals, where they lost 18-29 in a grueling and competitive match. Later that afternoon, they played another team to determine final standings and lost 20-27. They finished the weekend in fourth place. Although they didn’t finish first on court, the bond and camaraderie that was formed made each of the players winners.
