- The Spreckels Park restrooms were open for the first summer concert on Sunday, May 28, and will be open for each concert going forward. However, the building is not complete and the restroom will remain closed during the week so the contractor can complete the remaining work. Park users are encouraged to check out the portable restroom trailer adjacent to the main restroom, which is open for use during daytime hours.
- The new Spreckels Park mosaics, by local artist Kirstin Green, also were completed in time for the first concert. Inspired by the Coronado Flower Show established in 1922 and held annually in Spreckels Park, the two mosaics “Hibiscus and Passion Flower” and “Daisy and Zinnia” are bold floral designs. They were installed above the trough sinks. Green’s first public art installation, “Concert in the Park” completed in 2002, is adjacent to the new restroom building. Green restored the three large mosaic panels. The panels were re-stuccoed, cleaned and will soon have new lighting. A dedication for the art will be announced soon.
- Dock C/Boat Launch Ramp: The contractor on the Dock C and Boat Launch Ramp project is working on completing the Dock C construction by the first part of June with the Glorietta Bay Boat Launch Ramp to be completed by mid-June. Last week, the boat wash-off pad and ramp apron were poured. This week, the contractor is scheduled to pave Strand Way and the boat launch approach. The landing for Dock C will have concrete poured and the gangway attachment installed.
