Dorothy Frankel is the daughter of Florence Zahn, and her stepfather is Irwin Zahn, both long time residents of Coronado. Dorothy enjoys six months in Coronado each year and spends the other half in Sag Harbor on Long Island.
Ms. Frankel’s “LOVE” sculpture has been accepted into the permanent collection of Guild Hall Museum in East Hampton, NY and will be shown in the Sculpture Garden. LOVE has previously been exhibited in New York City Public Art as well as many other public art sites.
The sculpture is four bronze hands showing the word ‘love’ in sign language, because “in silence this sculpture depicts love, the emotions that unite us, exalt us and shows our commonality.” In 1997, Ms. Frankel created a series of sculptures called Visual Poetry. This ongoing body of work “draws from American Sign Language, yoga and universal forms. LOVE seeks to rouse our better angels, as we connect day to day, heart to heart, spirit to spirit, to the future.”
