ParkLife Team Member Spotlight: Ken May

kenmay_1-1If you’ve ever worked with ParkLife, you know that team is an essential component of our company. We value the relationships with the people we work with day in and day out as much as we do with our clients.

That’s part of what makes working with ParkLife different. We’re a family.

Once you start working with any one of our agents, you’ll immediately feel like part of our family, too. It’s a core fundamental to our company. It’s also why we strive to be so involved in the community. Working in Coronado is so much more than a job. It’s about living here, being connected to the community, and serving families in their home buying and selling process.

Ken May just so happens to be one of the newer members to our family, joining our team just over a year ago. Our family feel and emphasis on community engagement is exactly what brought Ken May to our team. We believe that his charismatic personality, dedication to knowing everything about the market, and passion for everything Coronado align perfect with all that ParkLife stands for.

Additionally, his gift in realizing a property’s renovation potential, combined with a knack for knowing what upgrades position a home to sell faster, is perfectly suited for the Coronado market. That’s a huge win for clients either looking to update their home prior to selling or to purchase a fixer upper.

In case you haven’t had the opportunity to meet Ken yet, here is a little more about him:

Tell us about yourself:

I was born in St. Louis, Missouri. I joined the Navy where I was stationed in Guam for two years before being stationed in Coronado in 1991. I’ve lived in the area ever since.

Together, my wife Moira and I have two children. Our son, Kenneth, is a freshman and our daughter, Marlee, just graduated from Chico State.

Fun Tidbit

When I was stationed in Coronado, I tried out for and made the Navy volleyball team. I spent the next three months traveling around the country playing the teams from the other military branches.

I brushed up on my skillset during the several seasons I coached the Coronado Middle School girls’ volleyball team. It was incredible to see the girls gain skills, confidence, and enjoy the sport.

I also added lacrosse to the line up when I was the assistant coach for three years for the youth team.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do?

I’m a sports nut. While I am partial to the Cardinals and the Blues hockey team, a given for any St. Louis native, I do root for the Padres. That is as long as they aren’t playing my Cardinals.

On my days off, you can find me at the beach playing volleyball, the park enjoying our incredible concert series, or catching the latest high school lacrosse match.

What’s your favorite part of working in Coronado?

The people, lifestyle, and atmosphere. It’s such a great opportunity to work with people here, especially when we embrace the island lifestyle. There have been many times when I will hop on a bike and meet clients to go see properties.  We all ride from house to house!

That is how people here experience the true Coronado atmosphere.

Your specialty?

Prior to joining ParkLife, I spent five years working with a local investment group focused on flipping homes. My specialty was pinpointing the value of a home before and after remodel.  I knew exactly what the home should be priced at to sell quickly and for maximum value. I also handled all the acquisitions and did a lot of the negotiations for the 500 homes we flipped.

It was like the show Property Brothers in real life.

For families looking to update their home prior to selling or looking for their own fixer upper, I can help you get the most value for your dollar.

What do people most enjoy about working with you?

Communication. I am always incredibly thorough in making sure my clients have all the information. After we connect by phone, I always send a recap of our conversation to ensure we are on the same page.

Additionally, I make sure I’m available when working families want to connect with their agent. Nights and weekends I make sure to keep my phone handy to answer calls and check emails. Yes, I make it a point to always try and answer my phone.

Why ParkLife?

The ParkLife team is built around good people. As a company, they emphasize service, which includes doing a lot of great work in the community. Because they focus on having high-caliber agents, they know our strengths and give agents the freedom to do what we do best.

As the largest boutique real estate firm in Coronado, ParkLife gets the island lifestyle. Working with a company that celebrates our island culture gives me the ability to meet clients by bike or embrace other unique Coronado characteristics at work.
